Saturday was very busy with the Quilters group, and yes they sorted out my sewing machine, it took three to understand it and two of them were needlework teachers, so what hope did I have! Suffice it to say I have practised and played and done a trial pennant which looks good, so I am pleased and suddenly confident. The afternoon saw several trips to the tip, clearing a lot of rubble from the back garden, again feeling self satisfied and another two bags of remnants, although one had end of roll material a couple of 5 metre lengths and a 3 metre length. How lovely are neighbours. Sunday we took off and found a lovely walk on the Severn Estuary, glorious weather and beautiful walks along the South Wales Coast Path, this one was beside the Newport Wetlands Reserve, an area reclaimed from the waste produced by the now disused coal power station. Absolutely fabulous and the contrast between the disused coal power station, gas fired power station, mountains in the background and reed beds and estuary in the foreground was phenomenal, this I feel may become one of our favourite local walks. At the rivers edge was this magnificent lighthouse, which in the distance seemed to tower and had been built on stilts, now it is somewhat foreshortened for safety, but still a magnificent sight. I sought out a poem, The Lighthouse, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which I will share with you at a later date, but instead felt that the whimsical poem by Rachel Lyman Field was more in keeping with the day and the photo.
Speak to you tomorrow and enjoy your day wherever in the world you are.
I'd Like To Be A Lighthouse
I'd like to be a lighthouse
All scrubbed and painted white.
I'd like to be a lighthouse
And stay awake all night
To keep my eye on everything
That sails my patch of sea;
I'd like to be a lighthouse
With the ships all watching me.
Rachel Lyman Field
Such a cute poem! I know it is the other side of the country, but your description of your walk reminded me of The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico, all lonely water and sky. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed catching up on your busy days. What a brilliant way to give a second life to a collection of unwanted linens. I'm so glad you met the neighbours too, what a bonus! All the best with your quilting.
Thank Jo, I had forgotten about the Snow Goose, now will have to read it again. Sorry I was away for a few days, busy elsewhere helping with a bathroom. Back now after a lovely weekend.
